How to Grow Carrots from Seeds: Easy Guide for Your Garden

Carrots are tasty and healthy vegetables. You can grow fresh carrots easily at home from carrot seeds. If you want to grow good carrots in your garden or balcony, follow these easy steps.

Why Grow Carrots from Seeds?

Planting carrot seeds directly in soil gives you fresh and natural carrots. Carrots grow well in cool weather and need soft soil without stones so their roots can grow straight and long. With little care, you will get sweet and fresh carrots.

Step 1: Choose a Sunny Place

Pick a place in your garden or balcony that gets good sunlight and where water does not stay for long. Carrots like soft soil that is easy to dig. Remove stones and hard parts from the soil.

Step 2: Prepare the Soil

Clean the soil by removing stones. Mix some compost or cow dung to make the soil rich and soft. This helps carrots grow well.

Step 3: Plant the Seeds

Make small lines in the soil about 1 cm deep, and keep these lines 15 cm apart. Carrot seeds are very small, so mix the seeds with dry sand to spread easily. Put the seeds lightly inside the lines and cover with some soil.

Step 4: Water the Seeds

Water the soil gently so it stays moist. Carrot seeds take 2–3 weeks to start growing. Do not give too much water or the seeds may get spoiled.

Step 5: Thin the Plants

When small plants grow 3–4 leaves, remove some plants so that others have space to grow big. Leave 5–7 cm space between plants.

Step 6: Take Care of the Plants

Remove weeds from the carrot area so they do not take water and food. Water the plants regularly, especially when it is dry. Carrots grow best in cool weather, so plant in spring or after monsoon.

Step 7: Pick Carrots

Carrots are ready in 2–3 months. When leaves are fully grown and roots look big, carefully pull out the carrots from the soil. Fresh carrots taste very good and are healthy.
